Over the past two decades we've tested hundreds of tools, but we never ran a competition this close. First, we tightened 38-inch and ¾-inch nuts with a torque wrench. Then we gathered seven cordless impact wrenches and removed the nuts. Somehow there wasn't a single tool with which we had a substantial complaint. We even tried it blindfolded, and could barely differentiate among our top performers. We chose our winner based on subjective measures: how it handled, balance, and grip. In terms of pure performance, though, the 41/2-star machines are just as good. Tools have come a long way in twenty years.
One issue noticed by a couple of the testers was the placement of the reversing switch. The switch seems to be right in the path of your trigger finger. Sometimes, when trying to go fast, the forefinger would push the switch into the neutral/locked position. This didn’t happen all the time, and it seemed to only be noticeable to those with larger hands.

tappet wrench ? A spanner of small to moderate size constructed similarly to an open ended wrench, but with a thinner cross section. Its purpose is to apply torque to the fasteners found on the valve trains of older engines, especially automobile engines, where the valve train required adjustment of the tappets (also known as lifters). Tappets, push rods, rocker arms and similar adjustable pieces are often equipped with locknuts which are thinner than standard nuts, due to space limitations. Frequently, the hex section of the adjustment is contiguous to the lock nut, thus requiring a thinner "tappet wrench" to be used. specialty

The Ryobi P261 is a great tool for contractors and one of the best investments you could choose to make. It comes with a three speed system that helps to get the motor going and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 3,200 impacts per minute. The Ryobi P261 also comes with a square anvil system that allows you to make sure you’re able to make secure socket connections for safer, more efficient, and more accurate work. Thanks to the LED lighting system that is built into the device, you’ll also be able to work late into the night hours or in less than desireable lighting conditions while maintaining full visual accuracy of the task at hand.

When compared to many other power tools, cordless impact wrenches are quite specialized in what they do. Large nuts and bolts may not need to be removed or tightened as often as smaller screws. But when you do need to adjust one, a cordless impact wrench will save you both time and energy. They can also loosen and tighten nuts and bolts much more accurately than hand tools such as sockets and ratchets, which is critical when it comes to working with larger bolts or on machinery.

The ability to remove lug nuts is largely dependent on how powerful your tool actually is. However, the answer is yes, you should be able to remove a lug nut using one of these tools. In order to remove a lug nut, most lug nuts will need to be removed with at least 100 ft-lbs of torque. This is equivalent to 1200 in-lbs should you need an inch conversion instead of a foot conversion. We know that will take at least 100 ft-lbs of torque to remove the lug nut because that is about what it takes to put a lug nut into place.

The fact that the Milwaukee 2763 Gen 1 high torque now has a stronger big-brother, but still finished 3rd deserves big kudos. In fact, receiving 86.1 points, it only misses 2nd by 0.3 points. While some others above suffered by finishing mid-pack, this is actually a plus for the Milwaukee. The difference is, the 2763 didn’t drastically fall short in any area, like the others. Even though the price is higher than several, with it’s 5-year warranty, features, and ergonomics, it’s still a great value.
You need a good a battery to power all though which is why Craftsman have bundled a top quality one in this impact wrench kit. It is a Lithium-Ion battery for superior performance (always good to see) and is rated at a phenomenal 4ah. That means it can deliver the juice to run the tool for hours on end – because what’s the point of having an outstanding tool like this if it is sat on the bench half the time waiting for a battery charge?
Our rig combines the front wheel of a car/truck with a weighted sled like those typically seen at tractor-pulls. Although our STR TorQ-O-Matic 5000 testing rig results may not provide a number you can brag about, it does a great job at providing work that levels the playing field on these high torque cordless impact wrenches. As the impact wrench turns the rotor, the weight moves further up the ramp, providing more clamping force on the rotor via the caliper.

When it comes to specific jobs, you can find wrenches to help you complete them. Torque wrenches, strap wrenches and pipe wrenches let you get the perfect amount of force without overtightening. Without the right wrench for the job, you risk stripping the bolts and damaging your work in progress. Ratcheting wrenches are perfect for getting jobs done quickly. Many will often feature a standard crescent wrench end in combination with the ratchet, effectively doubling the number of wrenches you have.

DeWalt’s 20-volt 880 Lithium-Ion cordless impact is a 1/2-inch drive job with a whopping 400 foot-pounds of torque rating. This tool has a variable-speed trigger with an electric brake; an ergonomic handle provides added control and comfort. It even includes an LED light with 20-second delay, providing greater visibility when working in dark areas. See the Summit Racing catalog for more info. (Image/Summit Racing)

Many mechanics probably have the MAC Tools BWP151 in their tool arsenal, and rightly so. This is a very powerful impact gun, and it shows. In the end, the MAC BWP151 finished with 81.4 points in our shootout. In the power category, it and the DeWALT finished neck and neck, in 3rd and 4th place, so it delivers plenty of power. The MAC Tools impact should have done much better in our speed (repetitive power) testing, but it seemed to have a fraction of a second longer lag, from the time you pull the trigger until the gun starts.

L wrench Allen key A wrench used to turn screw or bolt heads designed with a hexagonal socket (recess) to receive the wrench. The wrenches come in two common forms: L-shaped and T-handles. The L-shaped wrenches are formed from hexagonal wire stock, while the T-handles are the same hex wire stock with a metal or plastic handle attached to the end. There are also indexable-driver-bits that can be used in indexable screwdrivers. keys
Great comparison test, better than the others I read online. I ended up buying the first gen Milwaukee, which is still a great gun. I used a co-workers and was impressed pulling lug nuts off a one-ton dump truck. I was able to get the gun, hard case, set of Milwaukee-branded impact sockets, two 5.0Ah batteries, the charger, gun nose protection boot, and Milwaukee LED worklight for $450. Too good a deal to pass up.
socket spanner	A hollow cylinder that fits over one end of a nut or bolt head. It may include a handle, if it does not then it is often just referred to as a socket and is usually used with various drive tools to make it a wrench or spanner such as a ratchet handle, a tee bar (sliding tommy bar) bar or a knuckle bar (single axis pivot). It generally has a six-point, eight-point or twelve-point recess, may be shallow or deep, and may have a built-in universal joint. (The photo shows both ratchet and sockets.)	socket

I bought this to work on my van. I could not get 100 + foot pounds out of it. I put 150 pounds of air into it. And all I got was 80 pounds to the lug nuts. I had used a tork wrench and hand do 110 foot pounds on the lugs. Very poor instructions there's a book in 4 lanuges so this is sold as a world marquet product. I bought a 3" cut off tool also haven't used it yet.
