As one of the few subjective areas of our testing, we do our best to still quantify our results by including many users and data logging the results. Even though cordless tools are getting a bit smaller and lighter, due to technology, the cordless impact wrenches still have some weight and girth. Using a heavy tool can be a real pain, so it makes sense to place value on the fit and comfort of such a tool. More than just weight, balance, and vibration also play into our testing.

The Milwaukee 2763-22 M18 is one of the best designs on the market today in terms of powerful and capable tools, which is why it made our cut for premium choice. The device is capable of generating an impressive 700 ft-lbs of maximum fastening torque and up to 1100 ft-lbs of nut busting torque. It makes innovative design and simplicity merge in a beautiful combination with the thoughtfulness put forth by the manufacturers and helps to make socket changes easier with its ½ inch anvil.
Old English wrencan "to twist," from Proto-Germanic *wrankijanan (cf. Old High German renken, German renken "to twist, wrench," Old English wringan "to wring"), from PIE *wreng- "to turn" (cf. Sanskrit vrnakti "turns, twists," Lithuanian rengtis "to grow crooked, to writhe"), nasalized variant of *werg- "to turn" (cf. Latin vergere "to turn, tend toward"), from root *wer- (3) "to turn, bend" (see versus). Related: Wrenched, wrenching.
speed brace A crank-shaped handle that drives a socket. The socket-driving analog of the brace used to drive a drill bit. Used instead of a ratchet in a few contexts when it can save substantial time and effort—that is, when there is a lot of turning to be done (many fasteners), ample room to swing the handle, ample access to the fastener heads, etc. Has less leverage than a conventional ratchet wrench. Used occasionally in automotive repair or job shop work. socket
I bought this to work on my van. I could not get 100 + foot pounds out of it. I put 150 pounds of air into it. And all I got was 80 pounds to the lug nuts. I had used a tork wrench and hand do 110 foot pounds on the lugs. Very poor instructions there's a book in 4 lanuges so this is sold as a world marquet product. I bought a 3" cut off tool also haven't used it yet.
Look for design enhancements, such as all-metal construction for the gear housing or high-strength plastic overmolds, which helps to prevent damage due to impacts or being dropped. Impact wrenches with brushless motors have fewer moving parts, which means that there’s less of a chance of components breaking down, and maintenance is easier to perform.
clamp ratchet wrench clamp ratchet spanner An open-ended multi-size ratchet wrench. The ratcheting mechanism allows the nut to be clamped-on or loosened with a reciprocating motion; flip the wrench to change direction of the drive. The wrench takes the advantage of the clamp action to allow multiple sizes in both SAE and metric standards. Each wrench typically will allow up to 3 non-metric sizes and 3 metric sizes. adjustable
Agonizing; extremely distressing, unpleasant, or emotionally disturbing; having a severe effect on one's feelings. What a gut-wrenching loss for the young athlete, who poured her heart and soul into this match. Kids today are so desensitized that images of violence their grandparents would have found gut-wrenching now barely even register a response.

Power or impact wrenches are used for tightening or loosening nuts quickly. They are essentially small handheld electric or pneumatic motors that can rotate socket wrenches at high speed. They are equipped with a torque-limiting device that will stop the rotation of the socket wrench when a preset torque is reached. Pneumatic wrenches are commonly used in automobile service stations, where compressed air is available and the sparking of electric motors is a fire hazard.
When choosing your new cordless impact wrench, there are a few things you should consider. The first thing to decide is the brand. If you have other cordless tools, it’s a good idea to choose a cordless impact wrench that uses the same battery pack and charger as your other devices. It’s also a good idea to spend a little time doing a cordless impact wrench comparison. Some of the high-end models offer additional features such as adjustable torque settings, which cuts out the need to use a manual torque wrench.

wrench The most common type of adjustable wrench in use today. The adjustable end wrench differs from the monkey wrench in that the gripping faces of the jaws are displaced to a (typically) 15 degree angle relative to the tool's handle, a design feature that facilitates the wrench's use in close quarters. The modern adjustable end wrench was invented by Johan Petter Johansson [4]of Bahco. The common use of "Crescent wrench" to describe this design is derived from the Crescent brand, owned by Apex Brands, Inc. Apex Tool Group, LLC. adjustable
An impact wrench can be an extremely useful tool in the armoury of any at home mechanic. After all, we’ve all encountered that rusty bolt that simply refuses to shift, or that upgrade project that needs us to remove and replace about 15,000 bolts. There is however a better way to tackle these jobs that doesn’t result in skinned, bleeding knuckles, tears, tantrums and wrenches thrown through windows.

Grip – Impact wrenches can actually come in a few shapes and sizes, but in this guide we’ve concentrated on models that – if you squint – look like standard power drills. We’ve done this as most cordless style impact wrenches are of this type. They are also simple to use. Because of their shape they do need a good grip, so make sure you bear that in mind. A good grip should be ergonomic, so it’s comfortable to hold, with good trigger placement and a raised or rubberized surface so you can orient the tool in your hand by touch only.

One of the features on the Milwaukee 2767 that stood out is the “Bolt Removal” mode. This was not found on any other impact wrench we tested. On the push-button speed selection at the base of the impact, you can select 1-3. Setting 1 is the slowest and 3, the fastest. The fourth selection is the “Bolt Removal” mode, indicated by a circular arrow designation. When this mode is selected, the user holds their finger on the trigger—once the fastener breaks loose, the Milwaukee senses this and slows the RPM to just 750 to finish removing the nut. This keeps the nut from flying across the shop.
socket spanner A hollow cylinder that fits over one end of a nut or bolt head. It may include a handle, if it does not then it is often just referred to as a socket and is usually used with various drive tools to make it a wrench or spanner such as a ratchet handle, a tee bar (sliding tommy bar) bar or a knuckle bar (single axis pivot). It generally has a six-point, eight-point or twelve-point recess, may be shallow or deep, and may have a built-in universal joint. (The photo shows both ratchet and sockets.) socket

The hammer mechanism in an impact wrench needs to allow the hammer to spin freely, impact the anvil, then release and spin freely again. Many designs are used to accomplish this task, all with some drawbacks. Depending on the design, the hammer may drive the anvil either once or twice per revolution (where a revolution is the difference between the hammer and the anvil), with some designs delivering faster, weaker blows twice per revolution, or slower, more powerful ones only once per revolution.
