A recent design combines an impact wrench and an air ratchet, often called a "reactionless air ratchet" by the manufacturers, incorporating an impact assembly before the ratchet assembly. Such a design allows very high output torques with minimal effort on the operator, and prevents the common injury of slamming one's knuckles into some part of the equipment when the fastener tightens down and the torque suddenly increases. Was anemic at best, 500 ftlbs rating, apparently not on the one I purchased. The metal housing between the CH logo and the socket connection nub is forms sheet steel. Not a cast alum like on a normal impact hammer, so if you drop this more than 12'' onto concrete, it bends the thin metal housing and the tool no longer rotates. Either install padding and carpet in your garage, or look for another tool.

I bought this to work on my van. I could not get 100 + foot pounds out of it. I put 150 pounds of air into it. And all I got was 80 pounds to the lug nuts. I had used a tork wrench and hand do 110 foot pounds on the lugs. Very poor instructions there's a book in 4 lanuges so this is sold as a world marquet product. I bought a 3" cut off tool also haven't used it yet.

We used a 10-inch x 10-inch I-beam made with 1/2” (.470) steel. The I-beam has ten (10) grade 8 hardened bolts with a 7/8” diameter inserted, along with appropriate nuts and washers. The torque specification for this size bolt is 454 pounds. This means that at 454 ft-lbs of torque, the bolt is in its elastic or stretched state. We pushed the limits a bit and torqued all ten bolts to 500 ft-lbs for each impact wrench.
