When compared to many other power tools, cordless impact wrenches are quite specialized in what they do. Large nuts and bolts may not need to be removed or tightened as often as smaller screws. But when you do need to adjust one, a cordless impact wrench will save you both time and energy. They can also loosen and tighten nuts and bolts much more accurately than hand tools such as sockets and ratchets, which is critical when it comes to working with larger bolts or on machinery.
Old English wrencan "to twist," from Proto-Germanic *wrankijanan (cf. Old High German renken, German renken "to twist, wrench," Old English wringan "to wring"), from PIE *wreng- "to turn" (cf. Sanskrit vrnakti "turns, twists," Lithuanian rengtis "to grow crooked, to writhe"), nasalized variant of *werg- "to turn" (cf. Latin vergere "to turn, tend toward"), from root *wer- (3) "to turn, bend" (see versus). Related: Wrenched, wrenching.
And if the lug nut is in a position that is frequently exposed to the elements – especially water – you’ll have to take into consideration the possibility that your lug nut could quite possibly rust over and cause some major problems for you. In any of the above situations, you’re going to need a lot more torque power to get the lug nut out than it took to put it in originally.
Power or impact wrenches are used for tightening or loosening nuts quickly. They are essentially small handheld electric or pneumatic motors that can rotate socket wrenches at high speed. They are equipped with a torque-limiting device that will stop the rotation of the socket wrench when a preset torque is reached. Pneumatic wrenches are commonly used in automobile service stations, where compressed air is available and the sparking of electric motors is a fire hazard.
Power. Yes, at the end of the day it’s all about that delicious power, baby! Let’s face it; if a regular wrench were enough for the job, you’d just use that. The fact that sometimes (often in fact) it’s a real struggle to loose some rusted on or tight bolts is the reason Impact Wrenches were invented. They put an incredible amount of power right into the palm of your hand.
I bought this to work on my van. I could not get 100 + foot pounds out of it. I put 150 pounds of air into it. And all I got was 80 pounds to the lug nuts. I had used a tork wrench and hand do 110 foot pounds on the lugs. Very poor instructions there's a book in 4 lanuges so this is sold as a world marquet product. I bought a 3" cut off tool also haven't used it yet.

Many of the points for the Matco Tools impact is lost in the value department, including price and warranty. It was the highest priced of the shootout, by more than $100 ($699 MSRP). It really doesn’t have the features or output to explain the huge price. In addition, the warranty period is only 30 days. Compare this to 5 years with Milwaukee. In the end, the Matco Tools MCL2012HPIWK finished with 70.2 total points.

socket spanner A hollow cylinder that fits over one end of a nut or bolt head. It may include a handle, if it does not then it is often just referred to as a socket and is usually used with various drive tools to make it a wrench or spanner such as a ratchet handle, a tee bar (sliding tommy bar) bar or a knuckle bar (single axis pivot). It generally has a six-point, eight-point or twelve-point recess, may be shallow or deep, and may have a built-in universal joint. (The photo shows both ratchet and sockets.) socket

The Makita XWT08Z LXT High Torque is a great investment for anyone who needs to do some heavy duty work and is one of the best of its kind. The device is powered by a strong brushless motor that allows it to work harder than other competitive models while maintaining cooler core temperatures. The motor also proves to be energy efficient and can improve the battery run time by up to 50%. You’ll be able to choose from three different speed settings that can attain speeds of up to 2,200 rpm and be able to do some serious work with the power output.
Keep in mind that all rechargeable batteries slowly lose their charge when not in use, but some batteries lose their charge much faster than others. The capacity of a battery used in a power tool is usually expressed as the amount of amperage hours (Ah) that it can deliver. “Ah” is different than the overall amperage rating of the tool. Here, Ah represents how much energy flow the battery can hold, not the level of current during operation. Keep in mind that a higher Ah means longer battery use between charges.
speed brace A crank-shaped handle that drives a socket. The socket-driving analog of the brace used to drive a drill bit. Used instead of a ratchet in a few contexts when it can save substantial time and effort—that is, when there is a lot of turning to be done (many fasteners), ample room to swing the handle, ample access to the fastener heads, etc. Has less leverage than a conventional ratchet wrench. Used occasionally in automotive repair or job shop work. socket
Over the past two decades we've tested hundreds of tools, but we never ran a competition this close. First, we tightened 38-inch and ¾-inch nuts with a torque wrench. Then we gathered seven cordless impact wrenches and removed the nuts. Somehow there wasn't a single tool with which we had a substantial complaint. We even tried it blindfolded, and could barely differentiate among our top performers. We chose our winner based on subjective measures: how it handled, balance, and grip. In terms of pure performance, though, the 41/2-star machines are just as good. Tools have come a long way in twenty years.
As one of the few subjective areas of our testing, we do our best to still quantify our results by including many users and data logging the results. Even though cordless tools are getting a bit smaller and lighter, due to technology, the cordless impact wrenches still have some weight and girth. Using a heavy tool can be a real pain, so it makes sense to place value on the fit and comfort of such a tool. More than just weight, balance, and vibration also play into our testing.
